There are many ways for a Newton to estabilish communication, thanks to the pcmcia slots which can extend its capabilities to Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth, but a primary connection method takes place through the built-in serial port, for which any MessagePad has drivers pre-installed on internal flash memory.
