Newton ♥ iPod
MessagePad and iPod shares the capability to use any kind of accessories thanks to the presence of a built-in multifunction port called ‘Interconnect’ on Newton and ‘Dock’ on the iPod.

26pins on the Newton’s interconnect port makes it capable to communicate with external devices serially, record audionotes and playback them on-the-fly (as applies on NewtCast).

30pins on the iPod Dock make it capable of serial, firewire and usb connectivity, hi-fi audio record and playback, other than output photos and movies at s-video quality.

The MessagePad takes use of its advanced serial ports as the main channel to access datas, while the iPod has a really simple serial port used only to receive a set of fixed commands which allows to get access to its storage’s index file

NewtonOS has not been built to manage easily and fastly gigabytes of storage, instead the iPod has this exact capability, while lacks a system interface as complete as the NOS is.

The logic target is to make the devices work toghether, and to make it happen all is needed is to Install the NOS NewtTunes application and connect the MessagePad to the iPod using one of the bundles linked on your right.
