Bits of history
Apple built the Original MessagePad (Newton OMP) in 1993. It sported its own system, the NewtonOS: a touchscreen based graphical interface which reached its most powerful state of development a few years later with the release of NOS2 and included the most advanced handwriting recognition system ever existed.
The MessagePad is intended as a totally indipendent platform which can easily replace a modern computer on many kind of activities, although being built on a form factor so small to fit in a hand.
